The whole process of African violet seed propagation

The whole process of African violet seed propagation

Preparation before sowing African violets:

Sowing season: In spring and autumn, 20-25 degrees is more suitable.

1. Container: You can use a smaller plastic box, such as a single mooncake box or a translucent fast food box.

2. Medium: You can use unused small granular vermiculite.

3. Have plastic wrap ready for an airtight container.

African violet sowing steps

Seed soaking:

Place the seeds in a paper bag and soak them in room temperature water (around 20-25 degrees Celsius) for 8-12 hours. Do not open the paper bag during soaking. Soak the paper bag directly in water, then squeeze the paper bag to expel the gas so that the seeds are soaked.

The seeding container does not need to have a water hole, and the medium in the seeding container can be soaked with tap water or purified water.

Sowing method:

Use a paper towel to absorb the moisture from the soaked seed bag, open the bag and use a toothpick to transfer the seeds to the sowing container. The seeds must be sown before the bag is completely dry. Do not cover the soil or water after sowing. The distance between seeds should be more than one centimeter.

Maintenance of African violets after sowing (temperature, humidity, light)

After sowing, seal the sowing box with plastic wrap, and then place it in a larger, light-transmitting, covered or sealable container. Add water to the container to keep it moist, and place the container out of direct sunlight. The seeds will generally begin to germinate in 10-20 days at an ambient temperature of 20-25 degrees.

Bud germination, division and transplanting of African violets

1. Pay attention to moisturizing the seedlings after germination. After most of the seedlings have grown 2 leaves, gradually open the plastic wrap sealing the seed box for ventilation until it is fully opened, but the seed box should still be placed in a large container.

2. The seedlings are very delicate and can only be placed in a place without direct sunlight.

3. When there are too many seedlings in the seed box, you can use a toothpick to promptly remove the seedlings in the densely sprouting areas.

4. When the seedlings grow bigger, you can apply dilute fertilizer to promote growth.

5. When the seedlings have grown 4-6 leaves, you can consider using 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 medium to transplant them in time.
