The propagation method of Pinellia ternata and the control of its diseases and pests

Propagation of Pinellia tuber

Take the small tubers of Pinellia ternata grown that year and place them in wet sandy soil for accumulated heat treatment to promote germination. Pinellia ternata can be propagated by tuber propagation in spring and autumn. In March of spring, soak the tubers in carbendazim solution or potassium permanganate solution for 2 to 4 hours for sterilization and disinfection, then take them out and place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Then plant the tubers in the soil and cover them with about 3 cm of breathable sandy loam.

Propagation of Pinellia tuber bulbils

If you propagate in summer and autumn, you can harvest the bulbils under the petioles of Pinellia for propagation. The bulbils are bulbs that can grow new plants. Put 3 to 5 bulbils into the holes and cover them with about 2 cm of soil.

Pinellia Seed Propagation

After the pinellia blooms, wait until the spathe withers to collect the mature seeds, wait for them to dry and store them in wet sand to accumulate heat for sowing next year. Sowing can be done in spring and autumn. In spring, spread the seeds evenly in the holes and cover them with about 10 cm of soil. If necessary, cover them with straw to retain moisture. Transplant the pinellia seedlings when they grow to about 10 cm.

Pinellia pest control

Leaf spot

Small purple-brown spots will grow on the leaves of Pinellia ternata. As the disease worsens, the leaves will wither and even the entire plant will die. Before and in the early stages of the disease, spray Bordeaux mixture once a week for 2 to 5 times in a row.

Red Hawk Moth

July and August are the peak seasons for the red hawk moth, whose larvae will bite the leaves into notches. Spraying 1000 times diluted trichlorfon during the larval stage of the red hawk moth can kill it.
