How to fertilize cactus correctly

How to fertilize cactus correctly

Fertilizer selection

Let’s first talk about what fertilizers are suitable for cacti: decomposed fertilizers, fertilizers with low salt content, nitrogen fertilizers, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, etc.

Time of fertilization

Spring and autumn are the most vigorous growth seasons for most plants. Cacti enter the peak growth period in summer, when the growth rate is greater than in other seasons. Therefore, fertilization in spring and autumn should be carried out according to the following time and frequency: fertilize once every 15 days in spring, 4 to 5 times, and fertilize once a month in autumn; in summer, the interval can be shortened to about once every 10 days.

Fertilization precautions

Fertilization should be stopped until early October. If fertilization is not controlled well at this time, the cactus will easily be frozen in winter.

Be careful when applying fertilizer so that it does not splash onto the plants. If it does, spray them with water from a spray bottle until the fertilizer is washed away.

Introduction to several homemade fertilizers

The raw materials for the following homemade fertilizers all come from life and are common in life.

Wood ash: Wood ash is the most common potassium fertilizer and can be mixed directly with soil and used to plant plants.

Bone meal: Bone meal can be soaked in water and used on all plants.

Hoof horns: Chop the hoof horns into pieces and soak them in water. They can be used after they are decomposed. The same can be used for all plants.
