How to prune the umbrella tree

How to prune the umbrella tree

Pruning method

Pruning: The umbrella plant can grow to several tens of meters in height, but when planted indoors, it is not advisable to let the plant be too tall, so the plant needs to be pruned. This can not only shorten the plant but also make it grow stronger. The best time to prune is in spring, before new branches emerge; you can prune off all the upper parts of the plant, which is called pruning. When wiping the head, you can determine the height of the plant according to your desired height.

Thinning: Thinning can be done during the dormant period of the plant, especially in winter; thinning is applicable to all plants and is also one of the commonly used pruning methods. When they grow very densely, the plants in the center cannot breathe or see light. At this time, they must be thinned out to increase the light transmission and ventilation of the plants. This will allow the plants to grow evenly and increase their overall ornamental value. When thinning, you can first cut off all diseased branches and leaves, and then prune the old, weak, diseased and shorter branches.

Precautions

When planting the umbrella tree, it is necessary to pinch the top of the plant when it grows to a height of 15 cm to 20 cm. This will promote the growth of side branches.

The older leaves in the lower part of the umbrella tree will slowly fall off, leaving only the trunk in the lower part of the plant. Therefore, when changing the soil and potting of the plant in spring every year, you can top it to allow the plant to grow more side branches.
