How to propagate green calyx by cuttings

How to propagate green calyx by cuttings

Hardwood cuttings

When green calyx is propagated by hardwood cuttings, it is usually done after the leaves fall in November. First, select the better growing branches from the new growing plants and cut them into 10-15 cm lengths. Then, place the incision in a disinfectant of appropriate concentration for 5-10 seconds, and then insert it into the previously disinfected sandy soil to a depth of two-thirds of the ear length. Finally, cover the inserted branches with a small arch shed to keep them warm. When they take root and sprout in March of the following year, the young branches with green calyx will grow into independent saplings, which means victory.

Softwood cuttings

When green calyx propagation is carried out by softwood cuttings, it is usually done from the end of April to May. First, select the branches with heels grown in the current year as cuttings, and cut them into 10-15 cm lengths. Then, soak it in a disinfectant of appropriate concentration for 20 minutes and insert it into the previously disinfected sandy soil at a depth of two-thirds of the ear length. Afterwards, spray water on the grafted branches intermittently, and they will take root quickly, with a higher survival rate.

In summary, when green calyx is propagated by cuttings, it can be done through two methods: soft branches or hard branches. The two methods take different amounts of time, the cuttings selected have different characteristics, and the rooting speeds are also different. In addition, disinfection of the cuttings after cutting is also an essential step. In short, friends who want to propagate green calyx can choose the appropriate method for cutting according to their own needs. As long as the operation is appropriate, a higher success rate can be guaranteed.
