Division propagationThe underground stems of Hawaiian coconuts will produce new branches as they grow. The method of dividing these newly sprouted branches from the mother plant and planting them separately is called the division propagation method. This method is usually suitable for when the plant grows new branches around April. To divide the plant, you should first take it out of the pot, shake off the soil, carefully observe the gaps between the roots, and use tools to separate the plant along the gaps between the roots. Each coconut plant should not be divided too much, 2 to 3 plants are appropriate. When dividing, divide evenly so that the plants are of uniform size. At the same time, when dividing, pay attention to the distribution of roots and branches in each part to keep the entire separated plant symmetrical to increase the survival rate. At the same time, pay attention to protecting the roots to avoid damage to the roots of the plant and prevent it from surviving. After separation, pay attention to pruning, remove rotten roots and leaves of the new plants, and then apply sulfur powder or other agents to the cut to disinfect and avoid bacterial infection. Finally, the disinfected plants are planted separately. The advantages of the division propagation method are that the survival rate of the propagated plants is high and the seedlings are quickly formed. The disadvantages are that the number of propagated plants is limited and the operation volume is large, so it is not suitable for large-scale propagation. Seed propagationHawaiian coconut will produce offspring seeds during the growth process. The method of collecting these seeds and sowing them for reproduction is called sowing propagation. This method is generally suitable for September to October after the plant seeds mature. To sow, you should first collect the seeds of Hawaiian coconut, and then bury the seeds in the soil of the seedling pot. Sow seeds in time and do not leave them outside for too long. The potting soil should be fertile and loose, and it is best to disinfect it in advance. Pay special attention to the temperature when sowing. When the temperature reaches 25℃, most new seedlings can germinate normally. When the temperature is below 20℃, basically no new seedlings will germinate. The germination period of new seedlings is relatively long, generally three to four months, during which time attention must be paid to protecting against winter cold. After the new seedlings break through the soil, pay attention to adding nutrients such as urea to ensure their healthy growth. After it grows to about 20 to 30 centimeters, you can choose healthy, fast-growing new seedlings and plant them in new pots. The advantage of the seed propagation method is that it can be propagated in large quantities. The disadvantage is that the seedlings have just started to grow and it will take some time for them to grow into mature plants with higher ornamental value. |
