How to propagate small-fruited roses

How to propagate small-fruited roses

1. Sowing method

Sowing is the most basic method of reproduction, but for small-fruited roses, seed reproduction may make it difficult for seedlings to survive, so most people will not choose this method. If you have more experience in seed reproduction, you can choose this method.

2. Division method

This method is still widely used in gardening, because the biggest advantage of this method is that it is relatively simple to operate and the survival rate of small-fruited roses is very high. The method is to cut off the small branches that grow from the roots and stems of the small-fruited rose at the connection with the mother plant, and then move them to another place to plant, to encourage the growth of a new small-fruited rose.

3. Cutting method

If the division method is simple and widely used, then the second more commonly used method is cutting. The operation of cutting method is relatively complicated, and there are many things to pay attention to. The first thing is to find young branches grown that year as seedlings for cuttings, and then choose branches with more vigorous growth as cuttings. After selection, the cuttings begin. You need to apply some grass ash on the lower cut surface of the cuttings to prevent root rot, and then insert the tender branches into the cuttings. After completion, you need to wrap plastic wrap around the cuttings to increase the humidity of the air around them, and keep the temperature at around 25 degrees Celsius.

4. Layering method

This method requires the selection of older branches. Choose a relatively sturdy small-fruited rose, and then choose older branches without diseases and insect pests, and then press them into the soil to promote rooting. This method is also very simple, but the survival rate is not particularly high compared to the first two.

5. Grafting method

Grafting propagation is generally carried out using asexually propagated seedlings. Potted plants are more suitable and ground planting is generally not used. Once completed, flowers will bloom in the same year.
