How to keep succulent bulbs through the winter

How to keep succulent bulbs through the winter

1. Control the temperature

Many flowers tend to enter a dormant state in winter. Due to the reduction in biological activity, the plants will grow too slowly, and succulent bulbs are no exception. But as long as it is given a temperature above 5°C, the fleshy bulb can continue to grow normally. So if there is a heater or other heating device indoors, we just need to move the succulent bulbs indoors. If the indoor temperature does not meet the requirements, you can choose to use electric heating wires, succulent fill lights, small heating pads and other methods to maintain appropriate temperature conditions.

2. Pay attention to the number of watering

When the weather is cold in winter, the number of watering can be reduced appropriately. It is enough to water once every half a month as long as the soil in the pot is kept dry. You can also use an air humidifier or spray water on the surface of the succulent bulb to replenish moisture in a room with insufficient air humidity and provide it with a suitable living environment.

3. Add nutrients

To speed up the growth of slow-growing succulent bulbs, you can also apply appropriate organic fertilizers and fertilizers when necessary. Ensure that the concentration of foliar fertilizer is below 0.1%, and use fertilizers such as urea with a concentration below 2%. Apply top dressing once every month and a half.

4. Provide light

Covering the succulent bulb pot with a layer of transparent plastic film and placing it on a windless and sunny windowsill will be more conducive to its growth. You can place the succulent bulb pot outside the window when the sun comes out around nine in the morning, but remember to bring it indoors around three or four in the afternoon when there is no sunlight.

5. Loose soil

Moderate soil loosening in winter can increase the oxygen content in the soil. Use a thin object such as a toothpick or wire to lightly poke into the soil to a depth of one or two centimeters to loosen the soil.
