How to Grow Verbena from Seed

How to Grow Verbena from Seed

1. Germination

If the seeds are sown directly into the ground, the germination rate will be very low, so it is best to germinate them first. First, prepare warm water of about 35-40 degrees, and then soak the seeds in the water. It will take about 3-10 hours. The specific time can be judged according to the degree of water absorption of the seeds. When the seeds swell up due to absorbing enough water, take them out of the water and the germination is complete.

2. Planting seeds

First prepare the soil: If it is planted in the field, you must first level the land, loosen the soil, add fertilizer and manure to make it suitable for the growth of petunia seeds; if it is potted, you must prepare the potting soil, you can use leaf mold or bean dregs soil as base fertilizer.

Then start sowing: If it is planted in the field, you must first dig furrows with a spacing of 3 cm between each furrow, place the seeds in the furrows with a spacing of 3 cm between the seeds, and then cover them with soil; if it is planted in flower pots, you can use the "pot immersion method", place the seeds in the pots at intervals, cover them with about 1 cm of base soil, and then put the whole pot in water. The water should not be too deep, just reach about half of the pot. Wait until the soil changes color, then take it out and place it in a suitable place for cultivation.

3. Temperature control

After the seeds are planted, a certain temperature is required. Generally, the temperature in autumn is just right for seed growth, but it cannot encounter cold waves. If you encounter a cold wave, be sure to keep it warm. If planted in the field, you can cover it with plastic film or other warming materials; if planted in pots, you can also keep them warm physically or place them indoors.

4. Lighting management

Seeds must have enough light for germination and growth. It is best to ensure sunlight exposure between 9 am and 4 pm every day. If it is covered with warm material, after it sprouts, you should uncover the warm material so that it can grow healthily under the sunlight.

5. Thinning management

After the seeds grow into seedlings, there will be some weak, sick, and redundant seedlings. At this time, thinning management is needed. First, remove the weak, sick, and redundant seedlings to save soil fertility; then fill the places where no sprouts have emerged with seedlings to make them grow in an orderly manner.
