How to grow Rieger Begonia

How to grow Rieger Begonia

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Looseness, rich nutrition and good drainage are the most important requirements. Specifically, peat soil, vermiculite, and perlite can be mixed as the substrate.

2. Temperature: It is best to be between 18 and 22 degrees. It is afraid of cold, so you need to keep it warm in winter, and it is best not to be lower than 15 degrees. In summer, keep the temperature down appropriately and don't keep it above 28 degrees for a long time.

3. Water: Water enough to meet demand, but do not allow water to accumulate. Don't let the water temperature be too low.

4. Fertilization: It is best to apply fertilizer once every two weeks. Use more nitrogen fertilizer when the plant is young, and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer before flowering.

5. Light: Normally, it is sufficient to provide scattered light, but in winter, no shading is required.

2. Proper pruning

There are two main pruning operations. The first time is pinching during the growth period. This keeps the plant from getting too tall and encourages the growth of side branches. The second time is during the flowering period, when excess flower buds should be removed in time, otherwise they will easily consume a lot of nutrients, and the overall flowering effect will be poor.

3. Prevention and control of pests and diseases

Diseases, pests and infestations are relatively rare, but sometimes there is "soft rot". When breeding, you can mix ginger juice with water and spray the plants to prevent this disease.

4. Change the pot regularly

You can change the pot in spring. If the plant is in bloom, you can wait until it blooms before changing the pot. Replace most of the old soil and repot. After that, there should not be too strong light, otherwise the plant will easily die from dehydration.
