Cucumber Growth Environmental Conditions and Characteristics

Cucumber Growth Environmental Conditions and Characteristics

Cucumber Growth Environmental Conditions and Requirements

It is widely cultivated throughout China, and many areas have greenhouses or plastic greenhouses for cultivation. It is now widely planted in temperate and tropical regions. The suitable temperature for growth is 25-32℃ during the day and 14-16℃ at night. The temperature difference between day and night of about 10℃ is conducive to the growth of fruit-type cucumbers.

Cucumber growing temperature

The roots of cucumber are very sensitive to temperature. The suitable ground temperature is 20-23℃. In principle, the ground temperature should be kept above 15℃. When the ground temperature is lower than 12℃, the roots will not stretch and the root hairs will stop growing. If the temperature is lower, there is a possibility of frostbite and death.

Cucumber growth humidity

Cucumbers have high requirements for soil moisture content and air humidity. Generally, the absolute soil moisture content of about 20% and the air humidity of 70% to 80% are most suitable for the growth of fruit-type cucumbers, so attention should be paid to controlling the water supply during the seedling stage.

Cucumber growing soil

Cucumbers like fertilizer and require sufficient fertilizer supply and fertile loam rich in organic matter, which is most conducive to the growth of fruit-type cucumbers.

Cucumber growth cycle and process

Cucumbers can be planted in spring, summer and autumn. Under natural conditions, the growth cycle of cucumbers is 90 to 120 days. If fast, they can mature in 60 days. Their growth and development generally go through four stages: germination, seedling, initial flowering and fruiting.
