Sweet potato growth environment conditions and characteristics

Sweet potato growth environment conditions and requirements

Sweet potatoes are native to South America and are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. They are also widely planted in my country. The plants prefer a warm, humid and well-lit growing environment and are a short-day crop.

Sweet potato growth temperature

The optimum growth temperature for sweet potatoes is 22-30℃, and the temperature during the root tuber growth period is best around 22-25℃. This plant has very poor cold resistance, and the plant will stop growing when the temperature is below 15℃.

Sweet potato growth humidity

Sweet potatoes do not require much water and the plants are relatively drought-resistant. During planting, the water holding capacity of the soil should be controlled at around 60-70%. If the humidity is too low, it may lead to the emergence of weak seedlings, short seedlings, and diseased seedlings.

Sweet potato growing soil

Sweet potato is a plant with a well-developed root system and strong ability to absorb fertilizer. It prefers loose, fertile, deep soil and can be planted in soil with a pH value between 4.2-8.3.

Sweet potato growth cycle and process

The growth cycle of the sweet potato plant is about 160-200 days. The plant's growth will go through several stages, including the rooting and seedling growth period, the tuber expansion period, the potato vine growth period, and the potato tuber growth period. As the sweet potato stems gradually grow longer, the leaves also gradually increase until they are harvested in October.
