How to transplant osmanthus trees

How to transplant osmanthus trees

Osmanthus tree transplanting time

Osmanthus trees are generally propagated by sowing, grafting, and cuttings. In northern regions, they are generally transplanted in spring because the temperature in the north is relatively low and it is necessary to avoid frost damage after transplanting. In southern regions, they are generally transplanted in early spring or winter, and the survival rate is relatively high.

Osmanthus tree transplantation method

Osmanthus fragrans division and transplantation

First, you need to cut the osmanthus branches that have grown for two years during the Qingming Festival and plant them in the soil. You must ensure a good ventilation environment. They can be planted in pots in the next year. The cuttings need to be cultivated for at least three years before they can be used.

Repotting and transplanting of osmanthus tree

1. Remove the roots: It is best not to water the plant three days before repotting to facilitate removing the roots. When removing the roots, use a bamboo stick to insert a circle into the soil along the edge of the soil, then clamp the stem of the plant, turn the flowerpot upside down, and tap the wall of the pot with your palm to separate the soil and the flowerpot.

2. Remove the soil and trim the roots: clean up all the soil on the surface and underneath the osmanthus, then cut off some of the old roots, dead roots and relatively thick roots, and then place them in a cool place.

3. Potting: It is best to choose a suitable flowerpot according to the size of the osmanthus plant. The flowerpot needs to be carefully disinfected, and then add culture soil and pour in an appropriate amount of slow-release fertilizer, then you can pot it.

Precautions for transplanting osmanthus trees

1. Pruning before transplanting osmanthus: Osmanthus needs to be pruned during cultivation to make it easier to survive. Its leaves should be pruned, leaving only the petioles and retaining one-third of the original leaves.

2. Transplanting time: Generally speaking, osmanthus is transplanted in spring because the climate is just right at this time and the moisture in the roots is not easily lost. In autumn, the temperature is relatively cool and it needs to be transplanted in a place with sufficient water sources.

3. Transplanting: Transplanting needs to be done on cloudy or sunny days. It cannot be done if there is rainy weather, and the time for transplanting should not exceed two days. You can use a shovel to transplant the seedlings, and try to minimize root damage.
