What are the cultivation methods and precautions of daffodils?

Narcissus Introduction

Narcissus is a herbaceous plant of the Amaryllidaceae family. The main ways of propagation of narcissus include side balls, side buds, double scales, tissue culture, etc. Generally, each bulb can produce about 2 flower stalks, and if the number is large, there are 8 to 11 branches. Most of them have 6 petals, and the color at the end is goose yellow.

The main varieties of daffodils include trumpet daffodils, apron daffodils, cyclamen daffodils, star daffodils, three-stamen daffodils, French daffodils, red-mouth daffodils, lilac daffodils, and Chinese daffodils.

Narcissus cultivation method

Daffodils are not picky about soil, but when growing them at home, you should try to use loose flower soil that contains some nutrients. It can be exposed to light for about 6 hours a day. The time it receives light can be slightly extended during the growth period. The maintenance temperature should be between 18-24℃. Water young plants more and mature plants less. Choose flower fertilizer with high phosphorus content, and pay attention to applying thin fertilizers frequently.

Watering method

Daffodils can be grown in soil or hydroponically. For hydroponics, add clean water in the morning and pour out the water in the pot at night. At the beginning, you can change the water once a year, and then change it every 3 days after a while. If the daffodils are grown in soil, generally water them every 2-3 days to maintain the moisture of the soil.

Fertilization method

Potted daffodils can use the common flower compound fertilizer on the market. Apply it before flowering, do not fertilize during the flowering period, reduce or stop fertilizing in autumn and winter. Hydroponic daffodils do not need to be fertilized. Ensure appropriate light and temperature so that the daffodils can store nutrients themselves.

Pruning methods

The leaves of daffodils can be trimmed. If the leaves on one side grow too densely, you need to select some of the slower-growing ones and cut them off. This will make the plant more beautiful. If the leaves turn yellow, you need to cut them off from the base. This will save nutrients and help other leaves grow.

Precautions for growing daffodils

Fertilize the daffodils 5-7 days after planting. Note that the roots are fragile at this time and fertilizer should not be applied near the roots. Do not change the water within 5-7 days after fertilization. It can be planted in autumn and winter and bloom in spring. The flowering period can last for a whole month.
