Should I use a large or small pot for my ball orchid?

There is no fixed requirement for the size of the flower pot when planting Hoya. Generally, a small Hoya can be grown in a small pot. If the Hoya is large and has relatively long leaves, it is suitable to be grown in a large pot.

Growth environment: The most suitable growth temperature for Hoya is within the range of 15-28 degrees. Hoya has good drought resistance and does not need frequent watering. Generally, fertilizer is applied once every half a month.

Repotting time: When the Hoya plant grows larger and its branches and leaves grow more vigorously, it needs to be repotted. There is no specific requirement for the time to repot the Hoya. It is generally most appropriate to repot in the evening when the weather is clear.

Should I use a deep or shallow pot for my ball orchid?

The root system of the Hoya orchid is relatively developed and generally extends underground, so it is most appropriate to use a deep pot when planting. If a small pot is used, the root system of the Hoya orchid will not be able to grow normally and the growth space will be limited.

Hoya is not very demanding on the material of the flower pot. Generally, a ceramic pot with good air permeability is very suitable for maintenance. For Hoya that is not too large, a small pot with a diameter of about 10 cm can be used for maintenance, as long as the drainage of the flower pot is convenient.

How to repot Hoya

1. Soil preparation

When repotting the ball orchid, the soil for planting it needs to be prepared first. Generally, it can be made of leaf mold, perlite or coarse sand, and coconut coir can also be added. These materials can be mixed in a certain proportion.

2. Remove the pot and prune the roots

After the Hoya is separated from the original flowerpot, you need to clean the soil on the roots of the Hoya, and then check the condition of the roots of the Hoya. If there are old roots, rotten roots and weak roots, they must be cut off.

3. Put it in the basin

The treated roots of the Hoya can be replanted in a new pot. When planting, you can also spread some expanded clay at the bottom of the pot. After planting, just water it thoroughly once.
