How to prune potted roses

When is the right time to prune potted roses?

Potted roses can be pruned after flowering. They can be pruned during their first flowering, which is in May. After their second flowering, they can be pruned in June or July. After their third flowering, they can also be pruned in August.

Cuttings of rose pruned branches: choose flowering branches, soak the branches in a solution of carbendazim added with water for 2-3 minutes, then take out and dry. The soil for cuttings can be a mixture of perlite and coconut bran in a 1:1 ratio. Before cutting, dip a little rooting water and then insert it into the soil. Place the rose in a place with scattered light for maintenance, and it will take root in 10 days.

How to prune the branches of potted roses

1. Bud removal: Roses bloom all year round and need to be pruned frequently. In spring, the plant will grow many buds, which need to be pruned in time. Prune all buds except for 2 to 3 buds on the main branches to allow them to thrive.

2. Bud thinning: When the rose is mature, remove excess buds to keep sufficient nutrients, otherwise these buds will consume a lot of water and nutrients, making the flowers smaller and the color lighter.

3. Pruning branches and leaves: Every time after the rose blooms, immediately prune 3 to 5 leaves at the base of the branch. At the same time, prune the dead branches, side branches, diseased branches, etc. of the rose to concentrate nutrients, make the rose more compact, and make the rose bloom more beautiful.

Precautions for pruning potted roses

When the rose blooms for the first time, the fallen flowers must be cut off immediately, but in June, only light pruning is required, and the withered flowers can be cut directly without pruning.
