Can lotus be planted in soil?

Lotus seeds should not be planted in the soil. It is an aquatic plant. If planted in the soil, it will be difficult for it to take root and sprout. It is generally best to put its seeds in water for maintenance so that it can take root and sprout quickly.

It is better to buy lotus seedlings directly for planting. It has strong growth ability and is not demanding on soil. However, it is best to use river pond mud or paddy field soil when planting, which is more conducive to its growth, or use garden soil from vegetable fields. Before using the soil, be sure to ensure its cleanliness and there must be no impurities in the soil.

Lotus soil cultivation method

1. Seed treatment

The shell of lotus seeds is hard and dense, so they must be broken artificially before soaking. There is a small tip on one end of the lotus seeds and a small dent on the other end. Grind the end with the dent on the rough cement floor or use pliers to make a small hole. Be careful not to damage the embryo and do not remove the shell.
2. Seed soaking and germination

The water temperature of 20℃-30℃ in summer is very suitable for lotus seeds to germinate. Depending on the number of seeds, use a bowl or basin to hold water to soak the seeds.
3. Transplanting of seedlings

Choose a bottomless ceramic pot or plastic pot with a diameter of 18cm to 30cm, add half a pot of garden soil or river pond mud without chemical pollution into the pot, soak it in water two weeks in advance, press the fine roots of the lotus seedlings into the mud when transplanting, plant one plant in each pot, and add appropriate amount of water after transplanting.
4. Autumn and winter management

2 to 3 weeks after transplanting, when the plant enters its peak growth period, if the leaves turn yellow, you can apply a small amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer, and apply dilute fertilizer frequently.
