Introduction to watermelon growth

Watermelon has strong adaptability and likes to grow on warm, loose, deep, well-drained sandy soil. my country's current watermelon producing areas are divided into two regions, north and south: Hainan Island is the main watermelon producing area in the south, and Shandong is the main producing area in the north.

Watermelon growth cycle

Early-maturing varieties of watermelon take 80 to 90 days from seedling cultivation to fruiting; mid-maturing varieties take 90 to 100 days; and late-maturing varieties take 100 to 120 days. They have a long growing period and therefore require a lot of nutrients.

Watermelon growth rate

After watermelon is planted, it generally goes through four stages: germination, growth, flowering and fruiting, and finally aging and death. When the ground temperature is 15-20℃, the germination period takes about 7-13 days. At suitable temperatures, the seedling period takes about 25-30 days, the vine extension period takes 18-20 days, and the fruiting period takes 28-40 days.

Temperature management : The optimum growth temperature for watermelon is between 25 and 30°C, the adaptable range is 10 to 40°C, and the accumulated temperature during the entire growth period is 2500 to 3000°C. Watermelon has different temperature requirements in different growth stages.

Fertilization management : The absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium by watermelon seedlings is relatively low, and the absorption is the highest during the fruit setting and fruit growth periods. However, do not apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer during the flowering and fruit setting period.
