When to change the soil for osmanthus

It is best to change the soil for osmanthus in spring, preferably from February to March. The temperature at this time is gradually warming up, and it is also the season for it to sprout and take root. After repotting, it can recover quickly and adapt to the new growth environment as soon as possible.

It is not recommended to change the soil of osmanthus in summer, because the climate is relatively hot in summer, which is not conducive to survival. It is best to change the soil in spring.

When should osmanthus be transplanted?

It is best to change the soil and transplant osmanthus before and after new branches sprout and after flowering in autumn each year, that is, from January to May and October to December each year. Transplanting in summer is avoided.

How to change the soil and pot of osmanthus

1. Stop watering the osmanthus for 2-3 days before changing the soil. After the soil is dry, knock around the flowerpot with a wooden stick to separate the plant from the pot wall. Turn the flowerpot upside down, use your fingers to push up the osmanthus soil from the hole at the bottom of the pot, and use the other hand to gently lift the plant out.

2. Remove the soil at the roots of the osmanthus, retain 1/3 of the old soil, keep the root group from falling apart, and trim the dry, dead, and rotten roots of the osmanthus.

3. Osmanthus does not require much for cultivation soil. You can use breathable, drained and fertile acidic soil. When cultivating at home, you can mix humus soil, garden soil and river sand in a ratio of 5:3:2. If there is no leaf mold, you can also use peat soil.

4. Plant the osmanthus plants in the newly prepared culture soil, compact the soil slightly, water to keep the soil moist, place in a cool and ventilated place for 10-20 days to slow down the growth, and then carry out normal maintenance in the later stage.

Notes on changing the soil for osmanthus

1. When caring for osmanthus, it is generally necessary to ensure that the soil is changed once every six months or so. It does not matter if the time is longer than this.

2. Osmanthus prefers acidic soil, and likes loose, breathable, and well-drained soil. Do not use heavy clay or alkaline soil to plant osmanthus.

3. After changing the soil, place the osmanthus in a cool place for a period of time to give it time to adapt. After about a week, you can move it to a suitable place for maintenance.
