How to Germinate Rose Seeds

How to Germinate Rose Seeds

Rose seed germination

Rose seeds that have been cold treated can germinate within 10 days, while those that have not been cold treated can only germinate in a very small number, and it takes 10-20 days to germinate, and the germination is also very uneven. Generally, we have the following methods to accelerate the germination of rose seeds:

1. Low temperature germination

Rose seeds can be germinated at low temperatures. Bury the seeds in moist sand and place them in an environment of 0-2℃. After about 2-3 months of refrigeration, they can be removed. As the temperature rises, the rose seeds will turn white and can be sown in the soil.

2. Warm water germination

Rose seeds can also be germinated by soaking in warm water. After cleaning the seeds, soak them in 40-50℃ warm water for half an hour, and then soak them in clean water.
3. Soaking, drying and germination

Rose seeds can also be germinated by soaking and drying. First, soak the seeds in clean water for two days, and then dry them in the sun when they crack.

How to collect rose seeds

The fruits of roses mature in September and October and can be harvested at that time. The fruits that grow on the branches of the flower stems and look like small hawthorn fruits are their fruits.

Rose seed planting

Rose seeds can be planted directly, but if the seeds are not soaked to germinate, it is difficult for them to germinate in the soil.

Rose seeds are usually sown and planted in spring or autumn. Sandy loam with high organic matter content needs to be selected. The seeds also need to be germinated before planting. After sowing by spot sowing, cover them with a layer of plain sand, and the seedlings will emerge in about a month.
