How to care for lucky bamboo in water in winter

Is the lucky bamboo afraid of freezing when grown in water?

Lucky bamboo is afraid of cold, and its suitable growth temperature is between 20-28℃. When the temperature drops in winter, the plant needs to be moved into a warm indoor place for maintenance in time to avoid it being frozen to death.

How to care for lucky bamboo in water in winter

1. Water volume

When caring for lucky bamboo in water in winter, you need to control the amount of water. The water should occupy one-third to two-thirds of the bottle. Normally, you only need to add water but do not change the water.

2. Location

In winter, do not place lucky bamboo in cold places such as balconies or windows, and do not place lucky bamboo near air-conditioning vents to prevent the leaf tips and edges from drying out.

3. Indoor maintenance

Lucky bamboo is afraid of cold, especially hydroponic lucky bamboo. It will easily freeze to death when the maintenance temperature is lower than 5℃, and its leaves will droop and turn yellow. It needs to be kept indoors in winter and the temperature should be kept above 20 degrees, which is suitable for the growth of lucky bamboo.

4. Insulation

When the weather is cold, you can also wrap the hydroponic container of lucky bamboo with cloth and the branches and leaves with newspaper, or you can use a large plastic bag to wrap the hydroponic container and branches and leaves, but don't tie them tightly, so that the branches and leaves can be exposed to flowing air, allowing it to safely survive the winter.

5. Suitable water temperature

When hydroponically cultivating lucky bamboo, the water temperature should not be too cold during the winter, otherwise the roots of the lucky bamboo will be frozen. Therefore, each time you change the water, you should let it stand for a day or two to control the water temperature. When adding water, the temperature difference between the new water and the old water should not be too large.

6. Sunbathing

The light in winter is soft, so it is recommended to place lucky bamboo in a well-lit place indoors to promote the healthy growth of the plant. If there is no light for a long time in winter, the plant will easily turn yellow, which is not conducive to wintering.

Precautions for winter cultivation of lucky bamboo in water

1. When caring for lucky bamboo in winter, you need to place it indoors, because low temperatures are not suitable for the growth of the plant. It can grow vigorously in a warm environment.

2. When caring for lucky bamboo in winter, it should be placed in a place with low light, because too strong light is not conducive to its growth. It is best to care for it with scattered light, which can allow it to grow vigorously.

3. When caring for hydroponic lucky bamboo in winter, the temperature must be controlled above 15 degrees, and the number of water changes must be reduced, otherwise the plant will find it difficult to adapt. Usually, it should be kept under light to accumulate more nutrients. Fertilizing should also be stopped to avoid fertilizer damage.

4. In winter, the water of hydroponic lucky bamboo needs to be changed every 20 days, and a few drops of nutrient solution need to be added every month. In the south, it can be moved indoors for maintenance in winter. In the north, it not only needs to be moved indoors in winter, but the temperature must also be controlled above 5°C.
