When is the best time to sow strawberry seeds?

Strawberry seed sowing time

Strawberry seeds are suitable for planting in spring, usually in March and April. The specific planting time needs to be adjusted according to the local temperature differences. If the local temperature is low, the strawberry planting date needs to be postponed. If strawberries are planted in a greenhouse, it is best to sow them in November each autumn.

Strawberry seed planting method and steps

1. Seed treatment

Before sowing strawberries, select seeds that are heavy, full and disease-free. If they are old seeds, the germination rate will be reduced. Then soak the selected seeds in warm water at 40-45 degrees for a day and a night to increase the germination rate. You can also add a few drops of nutrient solution to the water to promote rapid rooting and germination of the strawberries.

2. Soil conditions

Strawberries have relatively high requirements for soil. When planting strawberries, you need to provide them with loose, fertile, well-drained neutral soil. If the soil is too poor, it will affect the growth of strawberries. You also need to deep plow the soil to make it looser, and mix a certain amount of base fertilizer into the soil to improve the soil fertility.

3. Maintenance and management

Sow the processed seeds in the soil, water them once, and maintain them in a semi-shaded, ventilated environment. They will germinate soon. Spray them with sterilizers once a month during the growth period to prevent and control diseases and pests. It is also necessary to pull weeds regularly to avoid robbing them of nutrients, and apply fertilizers in time. Fertilizers can be nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers to make the strawberries grow more vigorously.
