When is the best time to sow marigold seeds

Marigold seed sowing time

Marigold seeds can be sown in spring and autumn, usually from March to June and from August to October. The temperature is suitable during these two periods, the seed survival rate is the highest, and the growth is the best. Generally, if the ambient temperature is above 18 degrees, the seeds are easy to germinate. In the southern temperature regions, sowing can be achieved throughout the year.

Marigold seed planting method and steps

1. Collecting seeds

If you have marigolds planted at home, you can wait until the seeds are mature and collect them. The seeds are usually located under the petals. Collect those high-quality plump seeds. If you don't have seeds at home, you can go to the market to buy ready-made seeds. Be careful not to choose expired seeds.

2. Seed germination

In order to increase the germination rate of seeds, it is best to germinate them first. Prepare warm water, soak the seeds in the warm water, remove the shriveled seeds that float to the surface, stir the seeds thoroughly after soaking them in water to allow them to absorb enough water, which can speed up the germination process. Then take them out and put them in a warm place for germination.

3. Prepare the substrate

Before sowing marigolds, you need to prepare a suitable substrate. It is suitable for planting in loose, well-drained, fertile soil. Vermiculite can be mixed with peat soil and garden soil. After preparation, it can be exposed to the sun for disinfection and then used for sowing.

4. Sowing

Prepare the soil, spray water appropriately to keep it moist, dig small holes in the soil, sow the seeds in the holes, cover with a thin layer of soil about 2-3 cm, water to keep it moist, and place in a cool and ventilated place to promote germination.
