Purple sweet potato planting time and method

Purple sweet potato planting time

Purple sweet potatoes are usually grown in late March in spring, and no later than early April. The temperature in the north is lower, so the planting period of purple sweet potatoes is generally later, usually in early May. The temperature is stable at this time, which is just right for the growth of purple sweet potato seedlings and can increase the survival rate.

Purple sweet potato planting method

1. Land preparation and fertilization

To plant purple sweet potatoes, you need to choose a field that is relatively high, sunny and dry, and use a hoe to deep plow it to loosen the soil. Then expose the field to the sun to dry it to kill the bacteria and weeds in the soil. Wait for the soil to turn white, and then sprinkle decomposed liquid fertilizer on it.

2. Seed potato planting

When planting purple sweet potatoes, you can use a hoe to dig shallow trenches in the field, then place healthy, complete seed potatoes with their tails facing down in the trenches, and cover them with fine soil. After sowing, water the purple sweet potatoes once to soak all the soil so that the seed potatoes can germinate as soon as possible.

Purple sweet potato planting precautions

After planting purple sweet potatoes, management must be strengthened, and timely watering should be done to keep the soil moist. Purple sweet potatoes should also be provided with fertilizers mainly composed of nitrogen fertilizers and supplemented with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote plant growth. When purple sweet potatoes enter the peak growth season, they can be sprayed with insecticides and provided with all-day natural light to prevent insect pests from occurring to the plants.
