Potato planting time and method in the south: planting season and management technology

Potato planting time in the south

If you want to plant potatoes in the south, it is best to choose March-April in spring, or September-October in autumn, because the temperature in these two seasons is relatively warm, which is conducive to better growth of the plants after planting. Due to the influence of environmental factors such as temperature, light, humidity, and soil, the time for potatoes to mature will also be different.

Potato planting method in the south

1. Soil conditions

When planting potatoes, you need to choose soil that is well-drained, loose and fertile, and add peat and leaf mold to the soil to increase the fertility of the soil. You can also apply some decomposed base fertilizer to meet the growth needs of potatoes.

2. Seed potato processing

When planting potatoes, you need to follow the principle of planting as you cut. The day before sowing, the seed potatoes that are in a dormant period, have young sprouts, are complete in appearance, and are free of pests and diseases should be evenly cut into small pieces of 25 to 30 grams. Make sure that each piece has buds. Soak the seed pieces in hot water for 30 to 40 minutes before sowing.

3. Planting seeds

When sowing, bury the seed blocks evenly in the soil, ensuring a depth of 25 cm and a distance of 3 to 5 cm between the seed blocks. After filling the soil, water it in time to ensure that the water can penetrate to the bottom of the soil and keep the soil moist. Cover the soil surface with a layer of plastic film to keep it warm and moist.

Precautions for planting potatoes in the south

After planting potatoes, you can water them once to keep the soil moist and encourage rooting and germination as soon as possible. After the potatoes enter the growth period, you need to water the plants every 3-5 days to meet their growth needs and maintain normal growth of the potatoes.
