Sweet mustard planting time

When planting sweet mustard, you need to pay attention to the temperature. In the southern region, it can be planted in July. If you plant sweet mustard in the northern region, the time needs to be extended. It is usually better to plant in August in the Yangtze River region, and in the Northeast region it needs to be planted in October. After October, it is no longer necessary to plant.

Sweet mustard planting methods and key points

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before planting sweet shepherd's purse, the land should be prepared and fertilized. The soil should be plowed and finely ground to remove possible pathogens deep in the soil. The soil should be leveled and finely ground, weeds and clods of earth should be removed, and a layer of organic compost should be sprinkled on as base fertilizer to ensure that the soil is loose, breathable, and fertile to facilitate growth.

2. Planting

When planting sweet mustard, you can choose healthy seeds with full grains, then soak the seeds in potassium permanganate solution for sterilization. After five minutes, take them out, rinse them with clean water, and then sow them in the soil, cover them with fine soil and water them to soak all the soil.

3. Field management

After sowing sweet mustard, field management must be done well. It likes cool climates and should be covered with shade nets after sowing. After the sweet shepherd's purse seedlings emerge, fertilizer and water management must be strengthened to keep the soil moist. It is best to use organic fertilizer. If weeds appear during the growth of mustard, they can be pulled out manually.

Sweet mustard planting precautions

1. Fertilization: Before planting sweet mustard, you should also pay attention to fertilization. First, apply some base fertilizer to the soil to ensure the nutrients of the soil. After planting the mustard, you should also apply topdressing to ensure that the mustard can grow normally. Topdressing is generally based on organic fertilizer. You can also apply a little urea and water it appropriately.

2. Diseases: The branches and leaves of sweet mustard are relatively lush, and the ventilation between plants is poor, which easily breeds bacteria and causes plant diseases. When caring for it, you can water the plants with a solution of chlorothalonil every three days to eliminate bacteria in the soil. You can also trim dense branches and leaves to increase ventilation.
