Which month is suitable for planting autumn beans?

The general time for planting autumn beans is around August and September every year. The middle and early August is the best time to plant autumn beans. The temperature at this time is better and not as high as in summer, which is relatively suitable for the growth of autumn beans.

Autumn beans planting method

1. Land preparation

First of all, you need to choose a geology with loose structure, good drainage and fertility. Then, before sowing, you need to fertilize the land. Usually, apply about 3,000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure and 20 kg of compound fertilizer per mu of land. After fertilizing, plow the land to mix the fertilizer and soil evenly.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

When selecting autumn beans, you should choose some seeds that are relatively cold-resistant and resistant to high temperature and high humidity. Thinning should start about 5 days after the seedlings emerge, and generally the seedlings can be fixed after about 20 days.

3. Pruning and vine guiding

When the seedlings grow to about 30 cm, you need to build a trellis to guide the vines. After that, the side vines of the seedlings should be removed to ensure sufficient nutrients for the main vines and the yield of bean pods in the later stage.

4. Fertilization

When autumn beans are close to the pod-setting stage, a small amount of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer is usually applied 5 days before flowering to promote flowering and pod-setting. When the pods are set, it is also necessary to apply well-rotted farmyard manure and compound fertilizer.

Points to note when planting autumn beans

1. When planting autumn beans, pay attention to the spacing between plants. Try not to plant them too densely. Control the spacing between plants to about 20 cm and the spacing between rows to about 50 cm.

2. Although the hot summer has passed when planting autumn beans, the temperature is still relatively high. Therefore, it is necessary to water the beans after planting to prevent the high temperature from causing water evaporation and causing drought in the planting area.

3. Top dressing is required in time during the seedling and pod-setting stages of autumn beans. Nitrogen fertilizer can be appropriately increased during the seedling stage, but nitrogen fertilizer application should be reduced during the pod-setting stage to avoid excessive growth of autumn beans.
