When and how to repot Begonias, steps and precautions for repotting

Begonia repotting time

The best time to repot begonias is in spring and autumn. The temperature in these two time periods is around 15-25 degrees Celsius, which can promote the growth of begonias and greatly improve the success rate of repotting. However, it should be noted that repotting should be avoided during its dormant period as the success rate is relatively low.

Methods and steps for repotting Begonia

1. Prepare the soil

Before repotting the crabapple, you must first prepare a larger pot and prepare suitable soil in advance. It does not have high requirements for the soil, so you can prepare ordinary sandy loam, which can be mixed with garden soil, leaf mold, and coarse sand.

2. Remove the pot

A few days before you decide to remove the pot, don't water it. Keep the soil dry. First, gently tap the four sides of the pot to separate the soil from the four walls of the pot. Tilt the pot to the sides and remove the crabapple plant with your hands.

3. Planting in pots

After taking out the crabapple, check the condition of the roots, prune the roots appropriately, cut off dead roots, rotten roots, and old roots, and then disinfect the roots. Then put the soil into the flowerpot, plant the crabapple plant in it, slowly cover the soil and press it tightly, immediately water it thoroughly to promote root adhesion, and do a good job of post-maintenance management.

Begonia maintenance after repotting

It will take about a week for the crabapple to adapt to the pot after being repotted. Note that there is no need to water or fertilize the crabapple immediately after being repotted, but you can apply rooting solution to it, which can promote root growth and reduce the possibility of root rot. In addition, you should provide an environment with diffuse light to avoid exposure to strong light.
