How to plant cyclamen bulbs? Planting and germination methods and tips

Cyclamen has the characteristics of beautiful flower shape, bright color and long flowering period, and is one of the famous potted flowers for the Spring Festival in my country. However, during the cultivation of cyclamen in pots, new bulbs often grow in the bulb position of the plant, so what should we do with the cyclamen bulbs?

Planting cyclamen bulbs

1. Prepare potting soil

Cyclamen has high requirements for potting soil. Before planting, it is necessary to prepare a breathable, loose, humus-rich soil, and then prepare a slightly larger suitable flower pot. You can use leaf mold, furnace ash, decomposed cake fertilizer, and river sand to mix the soil.

The soil is sterilized and then placed in the flowerpot. There are not many requirements for the flowerpot, but it is best to choose a flowerpot with good air permeability.

2. Processing the bulbs

Cyclamen must be healthy and free of pests and diseases during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The upper part of the rhizome withers, the old roots are cut off, and the strong roots are left. After pruning, a fungicide needs to be applied to the wound to prevent bacteria from invading. The processed balls need to be set aside to air dry for 2 days before they can be planted.

3. Planting in the soil

After the cyclamen bulbs are processed and the pot soil is prepared, they can be planted in pots. The rhizomes should be buried in the soil, and the depth of the rhizomes should be controlled. The depth should be about 2/3, and the rest should be left in the soil. This can promote better germination of the bulbs. Do not water immediately after planting, keep the soil dry, and prevent the bulbs from rotting.

4. Post-maintenance

Water the cyclamen bulbs a week after planting. Water should be slowly seeped along the pot soil. Do not water thoroughly. The soil should be half dry. It likes a warm environment and it is best to control the temperature at around 20℃.

In addition, ventilation is required, and the environment of the bulbs is suitable for resuming growth as soon as possible. After germination, thin fertilizers are applied frequently, and appropriate topdressing is applied to promote stronger growth.

Precautions for planting cyclamen bulbs

1. Time

The flowering period of cyclamen is about half a year. The bulbs of cyclamen can continue to grow for up to 4 or 5 times, and then gradually degenerate.

2. Environment

Cyclamen prefers a low-temperature environment, so it usually goes into a dormant state in the high temperatures of summer, and then wakes up in the fall if you water it thoroughly.
