How long can tulips be kept in water?

Tulips can generally be cultivated in water. When cultivated in water, they can live for 2-3 years as long as they are well maintained . If they are hydroponically cultivated fresh cut tulips, they can generally survive for about 3 months , and they can be thrown away after their stems and leaves wither.

In terms of flowering period, if the tulips are grown hydroponically, the flowering period is about 30 to 40 days. However, if the tulips are fresh flowers, they can generally be kept in a bottle of clean water at a temperature of about 10 degrees for about 10 days .

How to keep tulips in water for a longer time

The first step is to choose tulips whose buds have not yet opened or have just begun to bloom. Don't think that receiving flowers in full bloom is a good thing unless you only want to enjoy them for a day or two.

Step 2 : Please open the package immediately after receiving the bouquet. The stems will lose water easily during transportation, which is normal. As long as you replenish water in time, they will be restored to vitality on the same day.

Step 3 : Carefully take out the bouquet and cut off about 1 cm of the roots with a knife to help the flowers fully absorb water.

Step 4. Gently arrange the leaves. Remove any excess or damaged leaves, including leaves that will be submerged in water after adding water.

Step 5 : Choose a suitable vase, the height of which should be half the height of the bouquet. If it is too short, the flowers will just lie limply outside the pot. Although some people like the draped shape, it will make the flowers wither earlier.

Step 6 : Use a clean towel to wipe off any remaining water stains to keep it as clean as possible. Add cold water, do not use warm or hot water, and do not use a water level that is too high, about 10 cm is fine, and do not spray water on the flower buds.

Step 7 : Place the stems vertically along the wall of the bottle so that each plant has its own space. This is better for maintenance than staggered placement. Always keep water in the bottle. Tulips require a lot of water, so don't wait until they are dry before adding water.

Step 8 : If possible, add flower preservatives to the water to help extend the flowering period. Do not place flowers in an overheated or strong light environment.

How to grow hydroponic tulips

Tulips are perennial plants and bulbous plants, so most of them are cultivated once a year. Below we will introduce the method of hydroponic tulips.

Seed treatment

Tulip seeds that have just been bought cannot be cultivated immediately. They need to be disinfected first. Soak the seeds in 800 times diluted 75% thiophanate-methyl for about half an hour before normal hydroponics.

Hydroponics

For tulip hydroponics, there is a special culture box. Fill the box with water, but don't fill it too full. Make sure the lower half of the bulb is immersed in the water. Then stand the bulb upright in the culture box, and avoid tilting it.

Temperature and light

Place the hydroponic box in a sunny place and control the temperature between 8 and 14 degrees. Generally, the bulbs will take root and sprout in about a week.
