Why can't I keep the succulents I bought from the flower market alive (Are succulents difficult to keep alive)?

Why is it difficult to keep the succulents you buy alive?

Nowadays, many people like to buy flowers at the flower market. The most common things we see in the flower market are succulents. Succulents are relatively cheap, in good condition, and loved by everyone.

We all want to buy a pot when we see one, but the succulents we buy from the flower market die after a while. What is the reason? How can we keep them healthy?

In fact, it is not that we cannot grow the succulents we buy from the flower market. The main reason is that the flower market is a large shaded environment and the light is not very strong.

Moreover, most succulents are brought back directly from greenhouses . If we take them home, they cannot adapt to the home environment, and problems may easily arise due to the change of environment.

And when we buy succulents from the flower market, we also buy a kind of seedlings called medicinal brocade seedlings .

The seedlings of this kind of medicinal variegated plant have green leaves at the bottom, or other normal single colors, and the top turns pink, white or red. This is the seedling of this kind of medicinal variegated plant.

This kind of seedlings will die once you buy them, and it is difficult to keep them alive, so when we buy succulents at the flower market, we should not buy this kind of seedlings.

When we buy succulents from the flower market, we should try to put them in a place with scattered light and good ventilation after we get home, and don't rush to water them.

If you think the pot is ugly and want to change it, you can just trim the roots and dry them.

After drying, follow the steps for planting succulents. If it comes with a nice-looking pot, take it home and put it in a well-lit and ventilated place to cool down.

Generally, it takes three to five days to slow down. Don't water it or fertilize it during the slow growth period. If its leaves are normal after these few days, we can gradually increase the light.

However, do not water it yet. Let it slowly adapt to strong light. For example, give it 1 to 2 hours of light at the beginning, and gradually increase it every day to allow it to slowly adapt.

Wait until it adapts to the strong light before watering it. After watering, it will quickly restore the fullness of its leaves and start growing.

If we see it starting to grow normally, we can then add fertilizer to make it grow quickly.

When we buy succulents from the flower market, they are often moved directly from the greenhouse to the flower market. We have changed the large environment for them, and we need to slowly adapt them to the small environment of our family.

Once the succulent plants have adapted, they can be grown well in your home. Once they are well grown, no matter how you water or fertilize them, they will not die. This is the method of slowing down the seedlings of succulents bought at the flower market.

If you want to change the pot, you can buy bare-root succulent plants and trim and dry them before planting. This is much better than taking them home and raising them directly. The soil is new and can adapt to the environment in your home, so it will grow better in the later stage.
