Why the cabbage I grow doesn’t curl (what should I do if the cabbage I grow at home is difficult to curl)

If the reason that the cabbage leaves do not curl is excluded from the wrong seeds, it must be due to the failure to respect its growth habits or meet its growth needs during planting and management. This can only be solved by improving management and artificial binding.

1. Respect growth habits and meet growth needs

Planting vegetables is the same as planting flowers and plants. If you want them to grow well, you must have fertile and loose soil, a warm and humid environment with sufficient light, no diseases and pests, and sufficient supply of water and fertilizer.

Otherwise, it has reason to refuse to grow, or to grow in a rebellious way: it is clearly Chinese cabbage, and it should grow with curled leaves, but it grows loosely. Therefore, when planting Chinese cabbage, we must also respect its growth habits and plant and manage it carefully.

1. Soil

Chinese cabbage is an excellent cabbage variety with large size and many leaves. It likes rich, loose and well-drained soil. If the soil is too barren, it will naturally not meet its needs for rooting and growth.

Therefore, if you find that the leaves of your cabbage are not curling, first reflect on whether you have treated it poorly.

2. Temperature

Chinese cabbage is native to the north and prefers cool climates. Its growth cycle is mainly divided into the seedling stage, rosette stage and head stage. The temperature in the seedling stage is preferably 20-25 degrees; the rosette stage is preferably 17-22 degrees; and the head stage is best in a cool climate of 10-20 degrees.

Otherwise, the leaves may not curl. Therefore, if you find that your cabbage does not wrap around the heart, first check whether the soil is suitable for growth and whether the growth temperature is suitable.

3. Lighting

Chinese cabbage prefers a cool climate with sufficient sunlight and a large temperature difference between day and night. Sufficient sunlight will lead to strong photosynthesis, which is conducive to nutrient production and transportation.

Cool nights and large temperature differences between day and night are conducive to the storage and accumulation of nutrients. Therefore, sufficient light can prevent leaf curling.

4. Water and fertilizer

Chinese cabbage has a high demand for water throughout its life. If there is enough water, photosynthesis can proceed smoothly, metabolism is vigorous, and the plant grows well. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure sufficient water supply.

Chinese cabbage likes fertilizer, especially well-rotted farmyard manure. You can apply farmyard manure once a week. From the seedling stage, rosette stage to the head stage, the fertilizer requirement will gradually increase due to different growth cycles .

In the heading stage, potassium fertilizers such as wood ash and potassium sulfate need to be added. Therefore, sufficient water and fertilizer are also one of the important factors to ensure its normal growth and curling. Otherwise, it will be scattered.

2. Artificial Bundling

When Chinese cabbage is about to curl and form a head, you can try to make it curl and form a head through human intervention. In many places, people use straw to tie the cabbage to make it curl. If your cabbage is slow to curl, you can give it a try.
