How many days does Chinese cabbage grow?

The growth process of Chinese cabbage is from seed germination to cotyledon unfolding, then the plant develops 1-2 leaf sequences, sends out flower branches, and grows stem leaves on the main flower stems and side branches. When the flower buds grow up, they will bloom and bear fruit one after another.

Chinese cabbage growing season

The growing period of Chinese cabbage is 90-120 days. Generally, early autumn cabbage is sown in May and June, and matures and is harvested in August and September. Main season cabbage is mostly sown in early to mid-August, matures and is put on the market in November and December. Overwintering cabbage is sown in October and harvested in March and April of the following year.

Growing conditions for Chinese cabbage

1. Temperature: Chinese cabbage is a semi-cold-resistant vegetable crop. The suitable average daily temperature for its growth is 12-22℃. It will stop growing below 5℃. It can withstand short-term low temperatures of -2℃, but will suffer from frost damage below -5℃.

2. Light: Chinese cabbage requires medium light intensity. The light compensation point of photosynthesis is 750lx, and the light saturation point is about 15,000lx. The daily variation of the photosynthetic rate of leaves in autumn is generally a double-peak curve, with peak values occurring at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and there is a "trough" at 1:00 p.m., which is the photosynthetic nap phenomenon.

3. Water: Chinese cabbage has a large leaf area, a thin cuticle, and a large transpiration rate. Water has a great influence on photosynthesis, mineral absorption, leaf water potential, leaf area, and plant weight. If there is insufficient water supply during the growth period, the yield and quality will be greatly reduced.

Management of Chinese cabbage during its growth period

During the growing period of Chinese cabbage, it is necessary to strengthen the management of fertilizer and water. After planting, topdressing should be carried out. Use 4-5 dan of 15% decomposed human manure and urine per mu of land, and apply fertilizer every 3-4 days. After the rosette stage, use 15-20 dan of 30% decomposed human manure and urine per mu of land, and apply fertilizer every 5-7 days. After each fertilization, water according to the dryness and wetness of the soil. Usually water when the soil is dry and wet. Do not fill the ditches and beds with water, and drain the accumulated water in time.
