Cultivation methods and precautions of yellow hair palm

The yellow-hair palm is easy to grow. It does not have high requirements for the environment and is very simple to plant. As long as you provide a dry, low-humidity balcony with sufficient sunlight, the yellow-hair palm will grow very well.

How to cultivate yellow palm

1. Growth environment

The yellow-haired palm originally grows in the Mexican plateau. It likes a warm, dry and sunny environment. It can tolerate drought and barrenness, but cannot tolerate severe cold and waterlogging. The wintering temperature should not be below zero. Long-term accumulation of water in the pot will easily cause root and stem rot.

2. Soil selection

The yellow-haired palm is suitable for planting in loose, breathable soil with some mineral particles or lime. The potting soil and daily maintenance can refer to succulents. The flowerpot should be of appropriate size and have good air permeability. In order to prevent water accumulation, you can use expanded clay, coal slag or salt-free nut shells as the bottom.

3. Water, fertilizer and light

The yellow-haired palm likes sunlight and is afraid of waterlogging. For daily maintenance, it should be placed in an environment with sufficient sunlight. When watering, pay attention to the dry-wet cycle according to the dryness and wetness of the potting soil. It can tolerate barrenness and does not require frequent fertilization. During the vigorous growth period, you can apply a little water-soluble fertilizer every month or sprinkle a little granular slow-release fertilizer.

Matters Needing Attention in the Maintenance of Yellow Hair Palm

The soil in the pot of the yellow-haired palm usually needs to be changed every two years or so. When changing the pot, you can appropriately trim the messy branches at the roots. Generally, it is propagated by cuttings. Select the strong stem nodes and cut them off, then leave them to dry for three to five days.

The yellow-haired palm cannot tolerate waterlogging, so the amount of water must be controlled when watering. If waterlogging occurs and the environment is not well ventilated, insect pests will occur. When insect pests occur, choose insecticides specifically used to spray insects.
