Growing directions
Grow in a well-drained, chunky orchid-bark or cactus potting mix in bright indirect light, never full sun, which quickly scorches the flattened stems. The strongly toothed, zig-zagging stem margins that give this jungle cactus its common name are a striking year-round feature, and in fall mature plants produce large, fragrant, pale pink to white flowers that open at night along the notches of the stems. As an epiphyte from tropical Mexican forest canopies, it prefers higher humidity and more regular moisture than desert cacti, though the top inch of mix should still dry between waterings to prevent stem rot. It is superb in a hanging basket or on a high shelf where its cascading stems can trail freely.
