Growing directions

Plant in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun to partial shade after the last frost; lily of the Nile is one of the most effective summer-blooming perennials for the Gulf South, producing large globular heads of tubular blue or white flowers on tall naked scapes rising above strap-like evergreen foliage from early to midsummer. Water regularly during the growing season but reduce watering in fall and winter to trigger the rest period that promotes heavy flowering. Clumps perform best when somewhat pot-bound and should be divided only every 5–7 years. In zones 7–8, protect crowns with a heavy mulch over winter or grow in containers to move indoors.
